Acceptable Use Policy
This policy is part of the Luminous Terms of Service and applies to every website we host.
Last updated 16 October 2026
Why this exists
Luminous hosts websites on shared infrastructure. One site used to defraud people or to attack others puts every other customer's business at risk, including yours. This policy sets out the small number of things we cannot allow, so that we can act quickly if they happen.
It is written for local service businesses, trades, and professionals. If you are running an honest business, nothing here should concern you.
You may not use Luminous to
Break the law, or help others do so
- Offer, advertise, or sell goods or services that are illegal where you or your customers are.
- Operate without a licence or registration that your trade legally requires.
- Launder money, evade tax, or process payments for unlawful activity.
Deceive people
- Impersonate another business, brand, or person, or present yourself as being affiliated with someone you are not.
- Make claims about your business that are false or that you cannot support — including fabricated qualifications, certifications, insurance, awards, or years in business.
- Publish fake reviews or testimonials, or reviews attributed to people who did not give them.
- Run phishing, advance-fee, or other fraudulent schemes, or collect personal information under false pretences.
Harm people or systems
- Distribute malware, ransomware, spyware, or any code intended to damage or gain access to a system.
- Send spam, or use the site's forms to relay unsolicited bulk messages.
- Attack, scan, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our infrastructure or anyone else's.
- Harass, threaten, or incite violence against any person or group.
Publish prohibited content
- Sexual content involving minors, in any form.
- Content that sexualises or endangers children.
- Content promoting terrorism or violent extremism.
- Content that infringes another person's copyright, trademark, or other rights.
- Another person's private information published without their consent.
Abuse the platform
- Resell or sublet the service, or provide it to third parties as your own, without a written agreement with us. See the Terms of Service for the white-label terms.
- Circumvent usage limits, authentication, or rate limits.
- Use automated content generation at a volume that degrades the service for other customers.
- Upload media you do not have the rights to use.
Generated content and your responsibility for it
Content on your site may be produced automatically from the brief you supply. Automated generation can be wrong: it can state a number, a credential, or a claim that your brief did not provide. You are responsible for reviewing your site before it goes live and for keeping it accurate. See the AI content disclosure for detail.
Reporting abuse
If you believe a Luminous-hosted site is breaking this policy, email [email protected] with the address of the site and what you have seen. We read every report and we will tell you what we did, where we lawfully can.
What happens if this policy is broken
Depending on how serious the problem is, we may warn you, remove the offending content, suspend the site, or end the subscription. Where the problem is not urgent, we will contact you first and give you a chance to fix it. Where people are being harmed or the law requires it, we may act immediately and without prior notice.
If your subscription is ended for breaking this policy, we will still make your content available to you on request, unless doing so would preserve unlawful material or we are legally barred from doing so.
